Itinerary
Meals: Not included / Duration: 4 hours / Pick up at the meeting point between 14:50. Departure at 15:00.
Pick up at Calama airport and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. Excursion to Valle de la Luna in the afternoon. This is a desert landscape and a geomorphological wonder. Declared a Nature Sanctuary in 1982, it is part of the Flamingos National Reserve. This area offers impressive landscapes that resemble a fragment of the lunar landscape, with geological formations such as The Three Watchmen (now The Three Marias) and the majestic Great Dune. Do not miss viewpoints like Quebrada Honda, home to the famous Coyote Stone, especially impressive at sunrise and sunset.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch / Duration: 12 hours / Pick-up at the accommodation between 06:00 to 06:30 am / Return to the center of San Pedro.
Explore the town of Toconao, known as the "Lost Corner", for its charming simplicity, peaceful atmosphere, special climate, beautiful architecture, and crafts. Visit Laguna Chaxa, a marginal area of the Atacama Salt Flat in the Soncor Sector of the Los Flamencos National Reserve.
Then, head southeast towards the Andes Mountains to camp in the high-altitude town of Socaire. Explore the town's church and learn about its agriculture. Then, ascend to approximately 4,200 meters above sea level to visit the Miscanti and Meñiques Lagoons, part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve. These lagoons are characterized by their volcanoes and mountainous landscapes. Observe wildlife such as the Horned Coot, Andean Flamingos, Puna Plover, Baird's Sandpiper, Andean Lapwing, Andean Duck, and Andean Gull. The flora consists mainly of Yareta and Paja Brava, with both lagoons fed by underground water from melted glaciers. Continue through the foothills of the Southern Andes to the Talar Salt Flat, known as Red Stones. Here, the rocks undergo natural oxidation and erosion, creating stunning colors against the backdrop of the Andes.
Meals: Breakfast / Duration: 7 hours / Pick-up at the accommodation between 04:30 and 05:00 am / Return to the center of San Pedro.
Visit the Tatio Geysers, one of the highest geyser fields in the world and the largest group in the southern hemisphere. Located in the Andes mountain range northeast of San Pedro de Atacama, these geysers are the third largest in the world, after Yellowstone (USA) and Dolina Giezerow (Russia). Witness the maximum expression of these geysers at dawn, with temperatures reaching 85°C. On the way back, observe the wildlife such as vicuñas, llamas, ñandús, and vizcachas, among others. Admire the flora, which includes giant cacti, llaretas, and coirón. Visit the small ancestral village of Machuca, where residents are mainly dedicated to livestock farming and cheese production. Nearby, you will find the Salada Lagoon, home to families of flamingos, ducks, and seagulls, framed in a stunning landscape.
