Overview
Full day hiking at the south of Brunswick Peninsula. The landscape is composed by subantarctic forest, a pristine environment, with a lot of flora, peatbog zones and a historical trekking circuit of 5km. Mount Tarn is 2600 feet high and belongs to Andes Mountain Range. This mount was named Tarn in honor to the surgeon John Tarn who was the first in reach its summit in 1827. Another important ascent was achieved by Charles Darwin in his visit to Magellan Strait. He disembarked beside the mount and just in the same point where we start the trek.
Itinerary
07:00 - Departure from Punta Arenas.
08:00 - Arrive to Punta Árbol, 70 km south of Punta Arenas where ends the road. Welcome, breakfast and introductory talk of the day and the route.
09:00 - Start of trekking. (3 hours and a half of ascent)
12:30 - Mount Tarn summit. Time for Contemplation and pictures.
13:00 - Start of slowly descent to enjoy the view of Magellan Strait and its fjords.
16:30 - Arrive to the beach. Break to enjoy a nice lunch. Close of the activity.
17:15 - Return to Punta Arenas.

Monte Tarn is located in the Brunswick Peninsula, south of Punta Arenas, in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic region. It is part of the Andes Mountains and has an altitude of 830 meters above sea level. Its summit was first reached in 1827 by John Tarn and later by Charles Darwin during his expedition through the Strait of Magellan.
This trek is classified as demanding, as it involves approximately 3.5 hours of ascent to the summit, followed by a descent with panoramic views of the Strait of Magellan. It is recommended for individuals in good physical condition.
It is recommended to wear warm clothing suitable for low temperatures, waterproof trekking shoes, gloves, a hat, and sunscreen. We provide trekking poles and gaiters for added comfort during the hike.
